Pawtucket Red Sox (59-60)

Velazquez roughed up, PawSox rally falls short in 5-4 loss

Hector Velazquez allowed five runs – four earned – on seven hits and three walks in just four innings; striking out three. Carson Smith surrendered a single and whiffed two in the fifth frame. Shawn Haviland yielded a single and three walks over the final four innings; striking out four.

Brian Bogusevic, Matt Dominguez, Ryan Court, and Deven Marrero each muscled two hits in four at-bats; Dominguez driving a double, Marrero and Bogusevic blasting bombs. Rusney Castillo, Heiker Meneses, and Dan Butler each had a hit in four attempts; Butler with a roundtripper. Bryce Brentz and Sam Travis were each tripped up in four futile forays.

Portland Sea Dogs (57-59)

Sea Dogs survive the rain delay, beat Bowie 4-2

Henry Owens allowed one run on a single, a hit by pitch, and two walks over five frames, striking out four. Josh Smith came in after a nearly two-hour rain delay and surrendered a single and a walk in 1 ⅓ scoreless innings. Ty Buttrey was tapped for a run on two singles in 1 ⅔ frames; striking out a pair. Bobby Poyner struck out two in a 1-2-3 ninth.

Cole Sturgeon stung two singles and a double in five at-bats. Deiner Lopez laced a single, a triple, and a sacrifice fly in four appearances. Josh Tobias topped two singles in four jaunts. Danny Mars muscled a single and a double in five matchups. Jeremy Barfield and Josh Procyshen each procured a hit in four junkets; Barfield bashing his 22nd bomb. Mike Olt obtained first base on a single in four trips. Michael Chavis connected on a double in five forays. Josh Ockimey struck out all four times he came to the plate.

Salem Red Sox (26-23/66-52)

Gregor leads the Sox past the Rocks, 5-4

Logan Boyd was battered for four runs on nine hits – including a three-run downtown delivery from Brandon Downes in the sixth – and a walk over six innings; striking out two. Matthew Gorst gave up a single and a walk in his two scoreless frames. Adam Lau let two on in a scoreless ninth via a single and a walk.

Conrad Gregor golfed a double and his first Salem home run in four trips. Jhon Nunez notched a single and a walk in four jaunts. Victor Acosta and Nick Lovullo each laced a hit in three ventures, Acosta with a double and a stolen base. Jordan Betts and Mike Meyers each muscled a single in four matchups. Jose Sermo drew a walk in four sessions. Bryan Hudson went hitless in three appearances. Chris Madera struck out twice in his four frustrating forays.

Greenville Drive (25-24/66-52)

Groome gives up two in the second, Drive can’t respond in a 2-0 defeat in game one

Jason Groome yielded two runs on seven hits – including a Lucas Herbert homer – and a hit by pitch over five frames; striking out seven. Hunter Smith hit a batter and whiffed three in two scoreless innings.

Carlos Tovar topped two singles in three at-bats. Tyler Hill, Santiago Espinal, and Granger Studdard each stung a hit in three trips. Mitch Gunsolus walked once in three matchups. Jerry Downs, Bobby Dalbec, Brett Netzer, and Roldani Baldwin each had three junky jaunts.

Drive can’t find the gas, get shutout in game two 4-0

Daniel Gonzalez tossed all seven innings, giving up four runs – three earned – on five hits, a walk, and a hit by pitch while whiffing eight.

Santiago Espinal stung two singles and stole a base in three sessions. Isaias Lucena laced a double in two trips. Tyler Hill hit a single and stole a base in three attempts. Tucker Tubbs took a free pass in three treks. Bobby Dalbec was plunked and struck out twice. Ryan Scott, Jagger Rusconi, Mitch Gunsolus, and Granger Studdard each suffered three foiled forays.

Lowell Spinners (24-26)

Denyi dominates the Doubledays, Lowell wins 5-3

Tanner Houck was tapped for two runs on two hits and two walks in his one inning of work; whiffing one. Denyi Reyes followed with 6 ⅓ scoreless frames, relinquishing two hits and a hit by pitch; striking out six and uncorking a wild pitch. Dominic LoBrutto picked up the final four outs, letting in a run on two walks and a pitch to the backstop; striking out one.

Garrett Benge and Michael Osinski each obtained two hits in four at-bats; Osinski with a double, Benge with a triple. Steven Reveles reached twice in three sessions with a single and a walk. Raiwinson Lameda lined a roundtripper and walked to first in four appearances. Frankie Rios roped a single and a sacrifice fly in four trips; he was also caught stealing. Juan Barriento and Marino Campana each chipped in with a single in four jaunts. Samuel Miranda walked once in three matchups. Alexander Martinez had four fizzled forays.

GCL Red Sox (21-21)

Castellanos sacrifice fly is the game winner, Sox walk-off with a 5-4 victory in 10 innings

Juan Perez pitched the first five frames, yielding a run on four hits and a walk while striking out nine. Eduard Bazardo allowed three hits and a balk over three scoreless innings; whiffing six. Tanner Raiburn was torched for three runs on four hits in the ninth; striking out one. Rio Gomez struck out one in a 1-2-3 tenth inning.

Blake Swihart stung a single and a double, stole two bases, and walked twice in his perfect day at the plate. Juan Carlos Abreu collected two singles and was caught stealing twice in three jaunts before being replaced by Ramfis Berroa who struck out in his only trip. Kervin Suarez swatted a single and earned a free pass in four treks. Pedro Castellanos contributed a single and the game-winning sacrifice fly in five appearances. Cole Brannen blooped a single in five at-bats. Everlouis Lozada took a base on balls in four excursions. David Durden was hit by a pitch in four attempts. Andre Colon connected on a sacrifice fly amid three hitless attempts. Tyler Espin struck out all five times he came to the plate.

DSL Red Sox (38-20)

Larez loses focus in the eighth, Sox downed 4-3

Luis Colmenares coughed up two runs on five hits and three walks over four frames; whiffing six and uncorking two wild pitches. Jeison Pena pitched three scoreless innings, yielding a hit and a walk while striking out one. Jose Larez let in two runs on a triple and two walks while picking up only one out. Shair Lacrus was able to get the final two outs of the eighth, one by way of the K.

Rafael Rincones ripped a pair of singles in four at-bats. Reinaldo Ugueto hit a single and was hit by two pitches in four ups. Keibert Petit struck a single in the ninth pinch hitting for Jesus Chacon who struck out twice in three jaunts. Freiberg Marin, Ivan Houellemont, and Jose Mejias each had a hit in four matchups; Houellemont with a double and a stolen base. Lewis Baez was unable to reach in three trips. Angel Gonzalez and Jonathan Diaz were put out in all four of their forays.
