Pawtucket Red Sox (56-59)
Jalen Beeks yielded one run on three hits and a walk over six innings; striking out a sextet. Carson Smith rehabbed his way through a scoreless seventh, walking one and whiffing one. Ben Taylor gave up a hit and a walk while picking up the first two outs of the eighth. Williams Jerez got the final four outs, allowing one run on a Rymer Liriano roundtripper. Jerez also gave up a double and a walk.
Brian Bogusevic led the 13-hit offense with three hits – including two doubles – in five at-bats. Deven Marrero mashed a tater and a double against Charlotte starter Tyler Danish; the SS also drew a walk in four appearances. Bryce Brentz blooped two singles and earned a free pass in five forays. Heiker Meneses hits a single, a double, and was hit by a pitch in five matchups. Matt Dominguez delivered two singles in five excursions. Jake Romanski roped a double in four jaunts. Sam Travis swatted a single in five trips. Steve Selsky was plunked by a pitch amid three hitless sessions. Tzu-Wei Lin scored a run, but recorded an 0-for-5 at the dish.
Portland Sea Dogs (54-58)
Kevin McAvoy started the contest with a walk to Myles Schroeder – who he proceeded to pick off first base. McAvoy yielded one other walk and allowed a player to reach on an error in the second before setting down 16 successive Squirrels through seven hitless innings. McAvoy came out for the eighth and allowed a single to Hunter Cole which ended his no-hit bid. McAvoy gave up a second single and then tossed a wild pitch before logging the final out of the eighth. McAvoy struck out seven in his 102-pitch outing. Jake Cosart picked up the final three outs of the contest, walking two and whiffing two.
Chad De La Guerra drove a single and a double in four at-bats. Henry Urrutia and Cole Sturgeon each stung a single and drew a walk in four appearances. Danny Mars, Michael Chavis, and Josh Ockimey each obtained a hit in four jaunts; Chavis collecting his 28th moonshot of the season. Jeremy Barfield, Josh Tobias, and Jordan Procyshen were each denied a hit in their four junkets.
Salem Red Sox (25-20/65-49)
Kyle Hart scattered six hits and three walks over five innings, allowing a run while striking out five. Harrison Cooney yielded two hits and two walks in two scoreless innings. Adam Lau let three Astros reach via walks in his two scoreless frames, whiffing a pair.
Jordan Betts belted a single and the game-deciding double in the eighth in his four at-bats. Conrad Gregor golfed a single and collected two free passes in four appearances. Jeremy Rivera dropped a single and a sacrifice bunt in four jaunts. Mike Meyers and Nick Lovullo each laced a single in three trips. Chris Madera and Jose Sermo each served up a hit in four sessions; Sermo with a double. Tate Matheny did not put a ball in play, walking once and striking out twice. Austin Rei put three balls in play, all of which resulted in in an out.
Greenville Drive (22-22/63-50)
Jhonathan Diaz ceded three runs on six hits and two walks over five innings while whiffing a trio. Hunter Smith surrendered a single and a walk in two scoreless frames; striking out three. Joan Martinez gave up only a walk in two scoreless innings while whiffing two.
Mitch Gunsolus muscled a single and a double while taking a walk in four appearances. Jagger Rusconi ripped two singles in four at-bats, but was picked off first once. Tyler Hill hit a pair of singles in five trips. Roldani Baldwin and Jerry Downs each delivered a hit and a base on balls in four jaunts; Downs going downtown with his first jack of the season for the Drive. Granger Studdard golfed a double and struck out thrice. Santiago Espinal sliced a single in five excursions. Ryan Scott was plunked by a pitch and stole a bag in four sessions. Brett Netzer notched four fruitless forays.
Lowell Spinners (22-24)
Jake Thompson tossed 17 pitches in his second professional appearance, giving up a single and striking out two in his one inning of work. Dakota Smith followed with six scoreless frames of relief, surrendering three hits and a walk while whiffing a trio. Dominic LoBrutto let one man reach with a single in two scoreless innings, striking out a pair.
Alexander Martinez muscled a single and a double in three at-bats. Marino Campana collected a single, a double, two RBI and two strikeouts in his four matchups. Steven Reveles roped a single and drew a walk in three trips. Frankie Rios, Raiwinson Lameda, and Yoan Aybar each singled once in four appearances. Samuel Miranda was unable to reach in three sessions. Jordan Wren and Michael Osinski each struck out once amid four foiled forays.
GCL Red Sox (20-18)
Edilson Batista had an uneventful five inning start, yielding just two singles. Victor Garcia gave up a single in the sixth inning. Andrew Carber faced four batters in the seventh – hitting two and walking two – and all four came around to score. Carber also tossed a wild pitch. Oddanier Mosqueda came in with the bases jammed before giving up a single, a hit by pitch, and another single which cleared the bases of the inherited runners. With the bases reloaded, Mosqueda struck out his third man of the inning to end the threat. Mosqueda stayed out for the eighth, walking one – who was immediately picked off by catcher Alberto Schmidt – and striking out one. Tanner Raiburn tossed a scoreless 1-2-3 ninth to end the game.
Pedro Castellanos collected two singles, a hit by pitch, and his second homer of the season in five appearances. Ramfis Berroa blooped two singles in five at-bats. Andre Colon contributed a single and a hit by pitch in five attempts. Blake Swihart and Kervin Suarez each swatted a single in five treks; Suarez also swiping a bag. Alberto Schmidt and Tyler Dearden each earned a free pass in four trips. Everlouis Lozada and Cole Brannen each procured a base on balls in five forays; Brannen stealing a base.
DSL Red Sox (35-19)
The rain kept the Rays and Sox inside. The teams have scheduled a double dip on August 23 to make up the game.
