Pawtucket Red Sox (7-6)
Hector Velazquez tossed 59 pitches in his five inning start, giving up three singles, a double, and a walk while whiffing a trio. Brandon Workman pitched a pair of 1-2-3 innings, striking out five of the six he faced. The well-traveled Blaine Boyer – recently signed by the Red Sox organization – tossed the eighth inning, allowing a single and racking up two Ks. Noe Ramirez tossed the final frame, relinquishing a single and nothing more.
Matt Dominguez mashed a double and a two-run homer in his four at-bats. Junior Lake continued his recent mastery at the plate, picking up a pair of singles in four trips. Jackie Bradley blasted a fifth inning jack and walked twice in five rehab plate appearances. Bryce Brentz and Ryan Court each roped a single in four excursions. Sam Travis and Deven Marrero each went 0-for-3 with a free pass and two whiffs; Marrero was also picked off. Josh Rutledge also had a walk and three hitless attempts in his second rehab appearance. Blake Swihart took an 0-for-4 collar while striking out thrice.
Portland Sea Dogs (7-4)
Rain served to give the Sea Dogs and Rumble Ponies an unscheduled day off. The two teams will attempt to play the final game of the series tonight.
Salem Red Sox (9-5)
Roniel Raudes surrendered four runs on six hits (one bomb), two walks, and a hit by pitch over his five inning start; striking out three. Yankory Pimentel kept Wilmington off the board, allowing a trio of hits while whiffing a quartet in his two-frame relief stint. Pimentel also uncorked a wild pitch. Bobby Poyner tossed the final two innings, giving up four hits and a walk, relinquishing two runs on a Roman Collins quadrangular in the eighth. Poyner struck out the final man he faced.
Michael Chavis led the offense with a trio of homers and a walk in five plate appearances; driving in five of the seven Salem runs. After homers in the third and fifth, Chavis saved the best for the bottom of the ninth, crushing his second two-run shot to end the game. Jhon Nunez knocked three singles in four at-bats. Mike Meyers managed a pair of singles and a stolen base in four forays. Tate Matheny tapped a pair of singles in five trips. Chris Madera picked up a single and two free passes in four plate appearances; he was picked off and caught stealing in one of the times on base. Deiner Lopez was 0-for-3 with a pair of stolen bases entering the ninth, but led off the inning with his second downtown shot of the year. Josh Tobias had a single and a sacrifice in five trips; scoring the tying run ahead of Chavis in the ninth. Jose Sermo and Jordan Betts each took an 0-for-4 collar.
Greenville Drive (9-5)
Logan Boyd lasted 5 ⅓ innings, allowing a run on three singles and two walks; whiffing a pair. Matthew Gorst pitched 1 ⅔ innings, surrendering an unearned run on a single and a double, also striking out two. Stephen Nogosek threw a scoreless eighth and ninth, granting two singles while garnering three Ks.
Tyler Hill reached three times in four trips with a walk and two hit-by-pitches while swiping two bags. Tucker Tubbs and Nick Lovullo each thumped a pair of hits in four at-bats; Lovullo with a double and two RBI, Tubbs with a stolen base and a caught stealing. Ryan Scott, Isaias Lucena, and Yoan Aybar each acquired one hit in four excursions, Scott with a double, Lucena with a stolen base. Mitch Gonsolus drove in a run with a sacrifice fly but was otherwise hitless in three at-bats. Lorenzo Cedrola struck out twice in his four fruitless forays. Carlos Tovar earned a sombrero in his 0-for-5 day.
