Pawtucket Red Sox (2-0)
Brian Johnson struggled through four innings and one batter, scattering five hits and three walks, but allowing only a single run. Johnson struck out seven IronPigs and left the game after being hit in the head by a line drive. Edgar Olmos also allowed a single run in his three innings of work, despite giving up five singles, a hit by pitch, and a walk. Olmos whiffed one. Erik Cordier picked up a save with two scoreless innings, allowing two singles and a walk while setting down four by way of the K. Cordier also uncorked a wild pitch.
Matt Dominguez led the offense with a pair of singles and a walk in four appearances at the plate. Blake Swihart and Allen Craig each had a hit and a walk in four trips; Craig with a double. Junior Lake and Jantzen Witte each singled once in four at-bats. Mike Miller had a trio of discouraging at-bats. Rusney Castillo, Sam Travis, and Brian Bogusevic each had four frustrating forays.
Portland Sea Dogs (2-0)
Jalen Beeks struck out eight Fightins in his five-inning start, allowing a pair of singles and a pair of walks. Luis Ysla pitched the sixth and seventh, allowing a run on two singles, a walk, and a balk; whiffing two. Williams Jerez was inconvenienced by a double and a walk over the final two innings of play.
Aneury Tavarez and Cole Sturgeon each singled twice in four at-bats; Tavarez scoring two runs and stealing a base, Sturgeon driving in a pair and being caught stealing. Nick Longhi and Heiker Meneses each slapped a single in a trio of trips to the plate. Jose Rosario and Rafael Devers each knocked a base hit in their four forays; Devers with a double. Danny Mars drew a walk in his three plate appearances. Jake DePew made his debut with an 0-for-3 afternoon. Mike Olt took an 0-for-4 collar.
Salem Red Sox (1-2)
Daniel McGrath allowed all four Wood Ducks runs (three earned) in his 4 ⅓ inning start, giving up six hits and four walks while whiffing a quartet. Gerson Bautista hit a pair of Ducks and struck out four in his two hitless innings of work. Trevor Kelley allowed a lone single in his 2 ⅔ scoreless innings, picking up one strikeout.
Josh Ockimey led the offense with a trio of singles in five at-bats. Jhon Nunez knocked a pair of singles and drew a walk in four plate appearances. Josh Tobias also totalled two singles and a walk while adding a stolen base in his five forays. Derek Miller and Chris Madera each took ball four twice and picked up a hit in four trips to the dish; Miller with a double and a stolen base. Mike Meyers and Bryan Hudson each picked up a single in five at-bats. Jordan Betts drew a walk and struck out three times. Deiner Lopez took an 0-4 collar, but drove in a pair of runs with ground outs.
Greenville Drive (2-1)
Mike Shawaryn was slaughtered in two innings (and six batters) of work, gracing Delmarva to nine runs on seven hits (including a triple and a home run), two walks, and two hit by pitches. Two of his six outs were strikeouts. Daniel Gonzalez was able to stop the bleeding, giving up a run on a trio of hits, a duo of walks, and a pair of hit by pitches in three innings; whiffing five. Jordan Weems pitched three scoreless frames, allowing two singles and a walk while striking out a trio. Stephen Nogosek pitched a scoreless ninth, giving up a hit and striking out two.
Ryan Scott led the offense, powering a double and a triple while driving in four runs in his four at-bats. Nick Lovullo had a single, a stolen base, and a walk in four plate appearances. Santiago Espinal and Bobby Dalbec each dumped a single and drew a walk in five forays. Tyler Hill had a single and was plunked by a pitch in his five appearances. Tucker Tubbs and Yoan Aybar each procured a single and had four other futile at-bats; combined, they struck out five times. Mitch Gunsolus walked twice and struck out thrice. Isaias Lucena failed in all five of his at-bats.
