Salem Red Sox (11-8/51-37)

Bullpen melts down in the tenth, Salem defeated 8-2

Mike Shawaryn surrendered two runs – one earned – on five hits, two hit by pitches, and a walk over 6 ⅔ frames; striking out six. Daniel McGrath struck out the only batter he saw to end the seventh. Jordan Weems yielded a hit and whiffed a pair in the eighth. Gerson Bautista allowed two hits and struck out two in the ninth. The tenth was a different story, however, as Bautista yielded five runs – two earned – on three hits and two walks while picking up only two outs, one by K. Stephen Nogosek notched the final out, but not before giving up a two-run dinger to Daniel Salters.

Jose Sermo slapped a single and a double while drawing two walks in five trips. Tate Matheny managed two singles in five at-bats. Josh Ockimey obtained a double and a walk in four excursions before being lifted for pinch runner Bryan Hudson, who stayed in the game and drew a walk in the ninth. Chris Madera clipped a single and dropped a sacrifice bunt in five excursions. Nick Lovullo laced a single in four attacks. Jordan Betts bopped a single and struck out four times. Austin Rei reached three times in four appearances with two walks and a hit by pitch; he was pinch hit for by Jhon Nunez in the ninth, who grounded out to end the inning. Jeremy Rivera and Victor Acosta accumulated no hits in five frustrating forays.

Greenville Drive (7-11/48-39)

Drive score five in the fifth, survive to win an 8-7 slugfest

Jason Groome struggled in his 2 ⅓ inning start, giving up four runs – three earned – on five hits and two walks; striking out two. Robby Sexton surrendered a run on three hits – including a Gabriel Cancel quadrangular – and a walk; whiffing a quartet and uncorking a wild pitch. Algenis Martinez allowed an unearned run on three hits in 1 ⅔ frames, striking out one and unleashing a pitch beyond the catcher. Hunter Smith surrendered a run on two hits – including a Joe Dudek jack – two walks and a wild pitch in his wild ninth inning.

Roldani Baldwin was a triple shy of the cycle in his three hits in five at-bats. Santiago Espinal sliced three singles in five attempts. Tucker Tubbs thumped a single and a double while drawing a walk in five appearances. Lorenzo Cedrola contributed a pair of singles and a stolen base in five excursions. Ryan Scott scorched a single and was hit by a pitch before being replaced by Granger Studdard who was hitless in two trips. Eddy Reynoso and Carlos Tovar each topped a single in four attacks. Tyler Hill drew a walk and had four hitless at-bats. Mitch Gunsolus struck out twice in five failed forays.

GCL Red Sox (8-5)

Sox come back from three down, overtake the Rays 5-3

Edilson Batista allowed three runs – all in the first frame – on five hits and two walks over four innings; striking out four. Ritzi Mendoza hit a batter and relinquished two hits in three innings, also whiffing a quartet. Rio Gomez struck out five of the six batters he faced to earn his first professional save.

Pedro Castellanos and Cole Brannen each bopped two singles in four at-bats; Brannen adding a stolen base. Kervin Suarez sliced a pair of singles in five attacks. Bobby Dalbec dropped a single in three attempts before being replaced by Everlouis Lozada, who reached base via catcher’s interference. Tyler Esplin thumped a double in four trips. Ramfis Berroa roped a single in four attempts. C.J. Chatham earned a walk in three excursions before being lifted for Trey Ganns who grounded out in the seventh. Alan Marrero also walked once in three tries before being pinch run for by Juan Hernandez who scored in the seventh. Hernandez was subsequently replaced by Carlos Pulido who walked in his only time to the plate. Andre Colon was unsuccessful in four forays.

DSL Red Sox (21-11)

Red Sox pitching strikes out 11 in an 8-0 whitewash of the A’s.

Alejandro Rodriguez relinquished two hits and whiffed six in five frames. Luis Colmenares gave up four hits and a walk in three innings, striking out three. Antonio Police allowed a hit while whiffing a pair in the final frame.

Eduard Conde connected for a double and a triple in three at-bats before being replaced by Ivan Jimenez who struck out in his only appearance. Luis Hernandez hit two singles in three trips before being succeeded by Jesus Chacon who struck out in his only attack. Freiberg Marin and Alexander Martinez each singled twice in three excursions before being replaced by Ronaldo Pulgar and Angel Gonzalez, who each had two hitless at-bats. Keibert Petit procured a single and a sacrifice fly in three tries before being replaced by Luis Torres who had two unsuccessful ups. Willis Figueroa struck a single and drew a walk in five features. Rafael Rincones ripped a single in four tries. Reinaldo Ugueto was plunked by a pitch amid three hitless trips. Jose Mejias struck out twice in four futile forays.
