Pawtucket Red Sox (50-48)

Maddox slammed in the ninth, PawSox lose 6-4

Shawn Haviland hummed through 6 ⅔ frames, allowing just one run on five hits and a walk while whiffing a quartet. Jamie Callahan yielded a run on four hits in 1 ⅓ innings, striking out one. But Austin Maddox loaded the bases on a single and two walks while picking up the first two outs of the ninth, and could not get the final out prior to serving up a meatball to Pedro Alvarez that went out of McCoy for the grand slam.

Aneury Tavarez, Dan Butler and Bryce Brentz each bopped a pair of hits in four at-bats; Brentz blasting a solo shot in the fifth. Steve Selsky, Rafael Devers, and Ryan Court each contributed a single in four trips. Josh Rutledge was unable to reach in his three attempts before being replaced by Mike Miller who went hitless in his one try. Sam Travis and Heiker Meneses each struck out twice in four futile forays.

Portland Sea Dogs (44-53)

Portland strands nine, is shutout by Hartford 5-0

Roenis Elias continued his rehab assignment with 47 pitches over 2 ⅔ innings, allowing a run on a Josh Fuentes jack while walking and whiffing one. He also had two balks. Teddy Stankiewicz surrendered two runs on six hits and two walks; striking out six batters in 5 ⅔ innings. Trevor Kelley picked up the final two outs, but not before coughing up two runs on three hits.

Chad De La Guerra, Michael Chavis, and Jake Romanski each singled twice in four jaunts. Jeremy Barfield and Danny Mars each managed a single in four at-bats. Cole Sturgeon and Mike Olt each took a walk in four appearances. Henry Urrutia was the only man not to be left stranded, unable to reach in four frustrating forays.

Salem Red Sox (19-10/59-39)

Three run ninth puts Salem in the win column, 5-3

Shaun Anderson allowed one run on four hits while whiffing an octet in five innings. Logan Boyd left a pitch over the plate for former friend Luis Alexander Basabe to knock over the wall in the eighth; Boyd also gave up a single while whiffing a quartet over three frames. Gerson Bautista struck out the side around a Zach Collins quadrangular in the ninth.

Jordan Betts had two hits in four at-bats, bashing his ninth bomb and stealing his fifth base. Josh Ockimey obtained two singles in five jaunts. Austin Rei reached on a single and two walks in four treks. Bryan Hudson hit a single and earned a free pass in four attempts; he also stole his 20th base. Nick Lovullo laced a two-run long-ball in the ninth, his only hit in four tries. Jeremy Rivera and Chris Madera each managed a hit in five jaunts; Rivera with a double, while Madera was caught stealing. Mike Meyers dropped a sacrifice bunt in four treks. Tate Matheny mangled four failed forays.

Greenville Drive (14-14/55-42)

Groome gutted in the third, Drive fall 7-3

Jason Groome allowed five runs – all in the third inning,  including an Andretty Cordero two-out grand slam – on four hits and four walks in 2 ⅔ innings; striking out four. Robby Sexton surrendered two runs on five hits and a walk – including a Blaine Prescott poke – whiffing a quartet in 4 ⅓ frames. Algenis Martinez managed a scoreless eighth, granting a hit and striking out a pair.

Mitch Gunsolus garnered a single, a double, and a walk in four appearances. Carlos Tovar and Santiago Espinal each swatted a single and drew a free pass in four treks. Ryan Scott and Roldani Baldwin each bopped a hit in four at-bats; Baldwin with his 12th bomb. Lorenzo Cedrola clubbed a homer, his only hit in five attempts. Bobby Dalbec, Tucker Tubbs, and Granger Studdard combined for six strikeouts among their dozen combined frustrating forays.

Lowell Spinners (12-19)

Spinners get one off former Cy Young winner, but lose to Tri-City 5-1

Tanner Houck took his second professional loss, relinquishing one run on one hit, one walk, and a hit by pitch over 1 ⅓ frames; striking out one. Reliever Durin O’Linger surrendered two runs on four hits and three walks in 4 ⅔ innings; whiffing a septet. Jared Oliver allowed a solo tater by Abraham Toro-Hernandez in his two innings of relief; Oliver also gave up a single and a walk while whiffing a trio. Joan Martinez yielded a run on two hits and a wild pitch in the ninth, striking out a pair.

Nick Sciortino singled in Yoan Aybar – who had reached on a double – in the fifth off of the Houston Astros rehabbing ace, Dallas Keuchel, for the Spinners only run. It was also the only time Sciortino and Aybar reached in their three treks. Brett Netzer and Juan Barriento each notched a single in four at-bats. Frankie Rios was hit by Keuchel and had three hitless tries. Yomar Valentin and Marino Campana contributed a trio of hitless attempts. Garrett Benge and Nicholos Hamilton suffered four failed forays.

GCL Red Sox (13-11)

Batista blasted, Sox defeated in game one 7-0

Edilson Batista was blitzed for six runs – five earned – on seven hits and two walks while garnering only four outs; he did whiff two. Alejandro Rodriguez relinquished three hits, a wild pitch, and struck out four in 3 ⅔ scoreless innings of relief. Francisco Lopez-Soto surrendered a run on a hit, a wild pitch, and two walks in the sixth; whiffing one.

Jecorrah Arnold drew a walk in the sixth while pinch hitting for Kervin Suarez, who failed to reach in two tries. Everlouis Lozada, Andre Colon, and Pedro Castellanos each connected for a hit in three at-bats; Castellanos with a double. Tyler Dearden and Juan Carlos Abreu each struck out once in two hitless treks. Cole Brannen, Jerry Downs, and Alan Marrero suffered a trio of forlorn forays.

Sox score three in the first, pick up a split with a 4-2 victory in game two

Andrew Carber allowed an unearned run on one walk and a wild pitch in the first. Angel Padron pitched four innings of one-run ball, giving up two hits, two walks, and two wild pitches while striking out seven. Eduard Bazardo bonked a batter and gave up a base on balls in a scoreless sixth, whiffing one. Tanner Raiburn relinquished a single and a walk in a scoreless seventh, striking out one.

Cole Brannen had a perfect nightcap with two singles, two walks, and two stolen bases in four appearances. Pedro Castellanos contributed a single and two base on balls in four tries. Ricardo Cubillan and Kervin Suarez each served up a single and earned a free pass in four attempts. Zach Sterry sliced a single in four at-bats. Jecorrah Arnold reached three times on two walks and a hit by pitch in four jaunts. Juan Carlos Abreu was the fourth man in the Sox lineup to pick up two free passes – he also had two hitless excursions. David Durden was hit by a pitch in three trips. Eddy Reynoso was the only man not to reach, going 0-for-3.

DSL Red Sox (27-12)

Martinez pinch-walk brings in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth, Sox walk-off 6-5

Andres Jimenez allowed a pair of runs on three hits – including a Yunior Martinez moonshot – a walk, and a hit by pitch over four frames, striking out a pair. Juan Morillo managed two scoreless innings, yielding two hits. Johan Martinez surrendered three runs – two earned – on four hits in the seventh, whiffing one. Alberto Franco struck out a pair in a perfect eighth. Luis Rivero earned his sixth victory with a 1-2-3 ninth, whiffing one.

Rafael Rincones ripped a triple and two singles in five trips. Fabian Andrade was a homer shy of the cycle in four at-bats before being lifted for pinch hitter Keibert Petit in the ninth, who walked. Reinaldo Ugueto roped two singles and dropped a sacrifice bunt in five attempts. Marcos Martinez managed a pair of singles in four treks. Angel Gonzalez golfed a single and earned a free pass in five excursions – he was also caught stealing. Ronaldo Pulgar punched a single in four tries before being pinch hit for by Alexander Martinez in the ninth; Martinez delivered the key walk, driving in Gonzalez with the winning run. Willis Figueroa walked three times, was picked off and then caught stealing, and stole a base in five appearances. Ivan Houellemont was hit by a pitch and had three hitless ups. Jesus Chacon had a quartet of fruitless forays.
