Pawtucket Red Sox (40-40)

PawSox pitching coughs up six bombs, lose 14-7

Shawn Haviland yielded eight runs on three walks and seven hits – including gopher balls to Billy McKinney, Mark Payton, and a pair to Ji-Man Choi – striking out one in 3 ⅔ innings. Ty Buttrey tossed 2 ⅔ frames, allowing three runs on a walk and four hits – including round trippers from Eddy Rodriguez and a second from Payton – while whiffing a quartet. Chandler Shepherd surrendered three runs on seven hits in 1 ⅔ innings. Ben Taylor gave up a single in the ninth.

Bryce Brentz continues to bash, belting two singles, a double, and a triple in five at-bats. Heiker Meneses singled twice in four trips. Jhonny Peralta singled twice in five attempts. Ryan Court, Blake Swihart, and Mike Miller each managed a single in four excursions. Brian Bogusevic and Pablo Sandoval each swatted a hit in five forays; Bogusevic with a double. Brock Holt drew a walk amid three hitless trips – playing LF in his second rehab appearance – before being replaced by Aneury Tavarez, who was unable to reach in his one at-bat.


Portland Sea Dogs (37-40)

Ball gives up three in the first, Dogs can’t recover and go down to a 5-2 defeat

Trey Ball tossed five innings, relinquishing four runs on three walks, a hit by pitch, and six hits – including blasts from Drew Weeks and Brian Mundell – while whiffing a quartet. Jake Drehoff allowed a run on four hits in two frames; striking out one. Luis Ysla yielded two hits but struck out the side in the eighth.

Deiner Lopez laced three hits, including a double, in four at-bats. Rafael Devers delivered a single and a hit by pitch in four trips. Chad De La Guerra, Jake Romanski, and Cole Sturgeon each swatted a hit in four attempts; Sturgeon with a double. Danny Mars managed a single in five excursions. Jeremy Barfield, Mike Olt, and Henry Urrutia each suffered four futile forays.


Salem Red Sox (6-5/46-34)

Salem offense can’t do it against Blewett, Sox lose 2-0

Roniel Raudes relinquished two runs on two solo downtown shots by Brandon Downes in his 6 ⅔ innings; allowing three additional singles and four walks while whiffing a pair. Jordan Weems gave up two singles and struck out one in 1 ⅓ frames.

Jose Sermo, Jordan Betts, and Nick Lovullo each looped a hit in three trips; Sermo striking a double. Chris Madera managed a hit in four attempts, but was then picked off of first and caught stealing second. Josh Ockimey, Tyler Spoon, and Jeremy Rivera were unable to reach in three appearances. Tate Matheny and Austin Rei each were unsuccessful in four forays against Scott Blewett, who threw 111 pitches in the complete game victory.


Greenville Drive (3-8/44-36)

Legends leap on Drive for six in the fifth, Drive defeated 8-4

Bryan Mata yielded six runs on a walk and 10 hits – including a Gabriel Cancel quadrangular in the fourth – over 4 ⅓ innings; striking out two. Pat Goetze gave up two runs on three hits in 2 ⅔ frames; whiffing a quartet. Matthew Gorst gifted a hit and a walk in two innings, striking out a pair.

Mitch Gunsolus golfed a single and a double and took two walks in five appearances. Santiago Espinal swatted two singles and was granted a free pass in five attempts. Eddy Reynoso ripped two singles and was hit by a pitch in five excursions. Tyler Hill hit two singles and stole a base in five at-bats. Tucker Tubbs thumped a double and a sacrifice fly while taking a base on balls in five trips. Lorenzo Cedrola crushed a double in five attacks. Granger Studdard was granted two free passes in four trips before giving way to Ryan Scott, who struck out in his only at-bat. Isaias Lucena walked one and had four hitless attempts. Steven Reveles struck out twice in his five failed forays.


Lowell Spinners (4-9)

Lake Monsters double up Lowell, 8-4

Enmanuel De Jesus lasted only 2 ⅔ innings, giving up three runs on five hits and two walks; whiffing one, throwing one to the backstop, and committing a balk. Denyi Reyes relinquished two unearned runs on five hits, a walk, and a wild pitch over 3 ⅓ frames; striking out one. Lukas Young yielded three runs on three hits – including a Jack Meggs moonshot – and a walk; whiffing a pair in two innings.

Garrett Benge and Raiwinson Lameda each laced a trio of hits in five at-bats; Lameda with his first home run since 2014. Victor Acosta singled twice and drew a walk in five trips. Charlie Madden managed a single and two base on balls in four appearances. Tanner Nishioka knocked a single in four attempts. Yoan Aybar and Joseph Monge each managed a single in five excursions. Yomar Valentin was granted a free pass and dropped a sacrifice in his five forays. Juan Barriento received a base on balls amid four hitless at-bats.
