Salem Red Sox (40-24)

Kent and Chavis lead Salem to 40th win, 7-3

Matt Kent allowed two runs over his eight-inning start, giving up five hits and a walk while whiffing seven. Gerson Bautista yielded a run on three hits and a walk in his ninth-inning appearance; striking out one.

Michael Chavis reached all four times he came to the plate with two singles, a hit by pitch, and his 17th home run of the year. Austin Rei and Jose Sermo each slugged a pair of hits in four at-bats; Sermo with a double and a homer. Jeremy Rivera roped a single in three trips. Mike Meyer’s only hit in four tries was a sixth-inning moonshot. Josh Ockimey was granted a pair of free passes and had two hitless attempts. Bryan Hudson received a base on balls in his four appearances. Granger Studdard went hitless in three attempts. Chad De La Guerra had four futile forays.

Greenville Drive (38-25)

Drive score two in the ninth, defeat the Jackets 6-4

Darwinzon Hernandez surrendered four runs – three earned – on four hits and three walks over his 4 ⅓ frames; striking out a trio and uncorking a quartet of wild pitches. Robby Sexton pitched 3 ⅔ scoreless innings, giving up a hit and two walks while whiffing three. Stephen Nogosek walked one but faced only three batters in the ninth, inducing a game-ending 1-6-3 double play.

Nick Lovullo laced a pair of singles and drew a walk in four forays. Tucker Tubbs thumped two singles in four trips. Lorenzo Cedrola laced a single and drew a walk in five appearances. Chris Madera and Roldani Baldwin each roped a hit in four at-bats; Madera with a moonshot. Mitch Gunsolus was granted a free pass and dropped a sacrifice bunt amid two hitless trips. Ryan Scott lifted a sacrifice fly and walked to first once in five attempts. Tyler Hill was unsuccessful in his four at-bats. Santiago Espinal drove in three runs despite failing to reach base in five forays.

DSL Red Sox (2-6)

Offense still absent in the DSL, Sox defeated 3-1

Gregory Santos tossed four scoreless frames, yielding two hits and two walks while whiffing a quartet. Manuel Ramirez surrendered two runs on three hits and three walks over 2 ⅔ innings, striking out one. Luis Rivero allowed the final run, granting three hits and a walk in 2 ⅓ frames; whiffing a foursome.

Alexander Martinez managed two singles and a walk in his four appearances. Fabian Andrade singled twice and stole a base in four at-bats. Reinaldo Ugueto roped a single and earned a free pass in four attempts. Eduard Conde contributed a single in three trips before being replaced by Marco Martinez who struck out in his only try. Keibert Petit singled and stole a base in four forays. Luis Hernandez and Rafael Rincones took ball four once and had three hitless at-bats. Freiberg Marin dropped a sacrifice bunt amid three fruitless attempts. Ivan Houellemont was unable to reach in four frustrating forays.
