Pawtucket Red Sox (15-16)
Shawn Haviland tossed the first six innings, allowing a run on three hits and a walk; striking out four. Blaine Boyer threw the next two frames, relinquishing two runs on two hits and a walk. Jamie Callahan followed with his AAA debut, walking one and whiffing one in the ninth.
Brock Holt – starting at third base – hit a pair of singles in his two at-bats before being replaced by Heiker Meneses, who dropped a sacrifice bunt in his two appearances. Dan Butler belted a single and a double in his three trips. Rusney Castillo chipped in with a single and a double in four forays. Bryce Brentz drew a walk and had two hitless appearances. Mike Miller dropped a sacrifice and also had a pair of hitless trips. Matt Dominguez and Jantzen Witte each failed to reach base in three appearances. Sam Travis and Steve Selsky each had four frustrating forays.
Portland Sea Dogs (17-13)
Trey Ball started off with three clean innings, but then surrendered eight runs (five earned) in his next 2 ⅓ innings pitched. Ball gave up eight hits – including an Angelo Mora three-run shot in the sixth that ended Ball’s night – and two walks; striking out three and uncorking a wild pitch. Luis Ysla tossed 1 ⅔ scoreless innings, yielding a hit and a walk. Williams Jerez followed with his worst outing of the season, relinquishing four runs on four hits and a walk in the eighth; whiffing one.
Josh Tobias led the offense with three hits – including a double – in four at-bats; Tobias was picked off first once. Rafael Devers also reached thrice with two singles and a walk; he too was picked off first and caught stealing second on the ensuing run down. Cole Sturgeon singled in one of his two trips after replacing Nick Longhi who was hitless in two attempts. Deiner Lopez laced a single and drew a walk in four forays. Danny Mars managed a single and a walk in five excursions. Jake DePew drew a walk and had three hitless appearances. Jose Rosario, Joseph Monge, and Mike Olt each had a quartet of failed forays.
Salem Red Sox (22-11)
Rain in the D.C. area postponed the Red Sox vs. Nationals tilt. The two teams will attempt to play two today.
Greenville Drive (21-12)
Mike Shawaryn went the first 5 ⅔ frames, yielding three runs (two earned) on seven hits and a walk; whiffing nine. Hunter Smith pitched 2 ⅓ scoreless innings with one hit and one walk allowed; whiffing a pair.
Jerry Downs had a perfect day for the Drive, with a single, a walk, and two hit by pitches; he was also the only Greenville batter to not strike out. Mitch Gunsolus managed a single and two free passes along with his strikeout. Ryan Scott and Jagger Rusconi each singled once in four at-bats. Santiago Espinal did not put a ball in play, walking once and whiffing thrice. Nick Sciortino went hitless in three trips. Yoan Aybar, Roldani Baldwin, and Tyler Hill each had four frustrating forays; Aybar and Baldwin each striking out three times.
