Pawtucket Red Sox (15-19)
Henry Owens lasted only 4 ⅔ innings (on 104 pitches), surrendering five earned runs on six hits – including a Mike Ford four-bagger – a hit by pitch, and seven walks; whiffing five. Marcus Walden returned to the bullpen with 2 ⅓ frames, yielding two runs on three hits – the big one a two-run moonshot by Mark Payton – and a hit by pitch while striking out one. Jamie Callahan tossed a scoreless eighth, granting one hit.
Sam Travis, Matt Dominguez, and Mike Miller each managed two hits in four at-bats; Travis with his third tater of the season. Bryce Brentz and Steve Selsky each swatted a single in four trips. Ryan Court had a single and four strikeouts in five forays. Tim Roberson was granted a free pass amid three hitless trips. Brian Bogusevic was unable to put the ball in play, striking out thrice and being plunked once. Rusney Castillo put the ball in play all five times he was at the plate, each one resulting in an out.
Portland Sea Dogs (18-15)
Teddy Stankiewicz tossed a complete (seven innings) game six-hitter, yielding three runs. Stankiewicz also hit a pair of batters, allowed a two-run dinger to Correlle Prime in the fourth, and struck out five.
Josh Tobias singled in the second of his three at-bats, the only hit Sam Howard relinquished. Rafael Devers drew a walk in the first and then was hitless in his next two trips. Mike Olt was hit by a pitch in the first, then followed with two futile forays. Joseph Monge, Jake DePew, and Heiker Meneses each had a pair of hitless appearances. Cole Sturgeon and Jose Rosario failed in each of their three excursions. Danny Mars was hitless in his only trip before being replaced defensively in the top of the third by Deiner Lopez, who went 0-for-2.
Jacob Dahlstrand picked up the victory with a five-inning start, allowing a run on four hits and a walk; striking out one and uncorking a wild pitch. Williams Jerez gave up a hit and whiffed a pair in the sixth. Austin Maddox picked up a 1-2-3 seventh to finish the victory.
Deiner Lopez reached base and scored in each of his four trips; lacing two singles and earning two free passes. Rafael Devers smacked two doubles and a single in four at-bats; scoring twice and driving in two. Mike Olt drove a double and a homer in his three appearances; scoring two and driving in a quartet. Jake DePew singled twice in three excursions. Jordan Procyshen and Heiker Meneses each singled once in three trips. Cole Sturgeon took ball four once in his three appearances. Josh Tobias took a walk and had three hitless at-bats. Joseph Monge was the only man not to reach, going 0-for-3.
Salem Red Sox (24-14)
Shaun Anderson yielded six runs on six hits – including bombs by Austin Hays and Ryan Mountcastle – and a walk in his first inning of High-A ball. Anderson settled down to complete five more frames, allowing one more run on four hits and two walks. In his six innings, Anderson struck out four. Trevor Kelley surrendered two runs on three hits – including a Steve Laurino jack – in his two relief innings, whiffing one. Bobby Poyner tossed a scoreless ninth, giving up a hit and a walk; striking out one.
Tate Matheny thumped three singles in five at-bats. Josh Ockimey reached four times in five appearances, with two singles, a walk, and a hit by pitch. Chad De La Guerra singled twice and walked once in five trips; he was also caught stealing. Nick Lovullo laced a single and walked twice in four forays. Trenton Kemp knocked two doubles in five excursions. Michael Chavis contributed with a single and a double in five at-bats. Mike Meyers singled once in five trips. Austin Rei and Jordan Betts each failed to reach in four forays; each striking out twice.
Greenville Drive (24-13)
Kyle Hart surrendered two runs in five innings, allowing two hits and a walk while whiffing a quintet. Hildemaro Requena yielded two runs on four hits and a hit by pitch over two relief frames, striking out two. Stephen Nogosek allowed a walk in the eighth before giving up a walk and a hit by pitch in the ninth. He then relinquished a double by Jake Ring with two outs, which drove home both runners.
Tyler Hill had his third consecutive multi-hit game, thumping two singles and a double in four trips while swiping two more bags (14 on the year) and being caught stealing once. Santiago Espinal swatted a single and a double in five at-bats. Jerry Downs reached on a single and a walk in four appearances. Ryan Scott, Mitch Gunsolus, and Yoan Aybar each stung a hit in four excursions, Scott and Aybar with doubles. Lorenzo Cedrola cracked a single in five trips. Nick Sciortino walked once and had three hitless appearances. Carlos Tovar was the only man to not reach first, going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.
