Pawtucket Red Sox (15-20)
Pawsox pick up two in the top of the eighth, then relinquish three in the bottom; lose seventh consecutive 9-8
Shawn Haviland fought through six innings, yielding six runs (five earned) on 11 hits – including home runs by Mike Ford and Eddy Rodriguez – and a walk; striking out three. Edgar Olmos pitched a 1-2-3 seventh before picking up only one out in the eighth. Olmos gave up a single and a walk in his final frame, both runners coming on to score. Noe Ramirez came in to contain the damage, but was unable to get two outs before Eddy Rodriguez rocketed another bomb out of the park.
Sam Travis thumped a single and a three-run tater in his four at-bats; adding a walk and a stolen base. Rusney Castillo crushed a double and a two-run roundtripper in his five at-bats. Dan Butler dropped a single and drew a walk in his four appearances. Brock Holt returned as the designated hitter, going 1-for-4 with a walk. Ryan Court and Matt Dominguez singled once in four forays. Steve Selsky swatted a single in five at-bats. Jantzen Witte walked once in his four appearances. Bryce Brentz was frustrated after all four forays.
Portland Sea Dogs (18-16)
Travis Lakins’ first AA game could not have gone much worse, tossing 49 pitches while picking up only five outs. Lakins was changed with five runs on five hits and a walk. Taylor Grover was able to get the final out in the second, but faced eight men in the third with each one coming around to score. Grover gave up two doubles, an Omar Carrizalez cuadrangular, and four walks in the frame, with the eighth man reaching on a Deiner Lopez error – making two of the eight runs unearned. Jake Cosart came in to contain the mess and went three scoreless innings, walking one batter and hitting one as well while whiffing a pair. Josh Smith followed with three scoreless frames of his own, yielding four hits and a walk while striking out a quartet. Luis Ysla pitched a 1-2-3 ninth, whiffing two.
Danny Mars led the offensive attack with three singles and a walk in five appearances. Cole Sturgeon stung a single, a double, and drew a walk in five forays. Joseph Monge and Josh Tobias each managed a pair of hits in five at-bats; Tobias with a double. Jake DePew reached four times with a single, two walks, and a hit by pitch in five trips. Deiner Lopez laced a double in four at-bats. Jose Rosario roped a single after replacing Rafael Devers, who delivered a single in four trips. Jordan Procyshen and Mike Olt were each unable to reach first in five tries.
Salem Red Sox (24-15)
Roniel Raudes tossed the first five frames, surrendering four runs on eight hits – including blasts from Austin Hays and Stuart Levy – and a walk; whiffing six and uncorking a pair of wild pitches. Austin Glorius went three innings, allowing a run on three hits and two walks; striking out three. Adam Lau gave up a single in the scoreless ninth.
Michael Chavis, Trenton Kemp, and Bryan Hudson each had a pair of hits in four at-bats; Chavis with a double, Kemp with a stolen base. Jhon Nunez knocked a single and was plunked by a pitch in his four trips; he was also caught stealing. Nick Lovullo laced a single and earned a free pass in his four appearances. Josh Ockimey obtained a single in his four forays. Chad De La Guerra singled once in his five at-bats. Tate Matheny managed a walk to first in his five appearances. Mike Meyers had two hitless at-bats after replacing Kyri Washington, who struck out twice.
