Pawtucket Red Sox (16-22)

PawSox score two in the ninth, break nine-game slide with a 5-3 win

Brian Johnson helped the beleaguered bullpen by going 7 ⅔ innings, yielding three runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks; striking out five. Austin Maddox picked up the victory by going 1 ⅓ scoreless frames, allowing a hit and two walks while whiffing a trio.

Ryan Court roped a pair of singles in four at-bats. Steve Selsky sliced a single and drew a walk in four appearances, scoring the winning run in the ninth. Brian Bogusevic was hitless in his first three trips, but blasted an RBI double in the ninth to score Selsky. Pablo Sandoval – who started at third base – punched a single in three at-bats before being replaced by Matt Dominguez who was hitless in his one excursion. Rusney Castillo and Tim Roberson each contributed one hit in four tries; Castillo with a two-run roundtripper in the third. Jantzen Witte and Brock Holt (DH) each drew a walk in four plate appearances. Aneury Tavarez was the only man not to reach, striking out twice in five futile forays.

Portland Sea Dogs (19-18)

Sea Dogs’ three-run 14th seals 5-2 victory

Kevin McAvoy surrendered two runs on eight hits, three walks, and a hit by pitch over his six-inning start, striking out six. Jacob Dahlstrand walked three and uncorked a wild pitch in his two-inning stint; whiffing one. Luis Ysla yielded a hit and two walks in two scoreless frames. Josh Smith surrendered a hit and a walk in three scoreless innings, striking out two and earning the win. Jake Cosart notched his first save of the season with a scoreless 14th inning in which he walked one and struck out another.

Jordan Procyshen hit two singles, drew a walk, was hit by a pitch, and was caught stealing in five trips to the plate before being pinch run for by Deiner Lopez who gave way to Jake DePew behind the plate. DePew was hitless in his one plate appearance and hit by a pitch in the other. Danny Mars, Josh Tobias, and Mike Olt each went 2-for-5; Mars with a triple and two walks (one intentional), Tobias with a walk, a double, and a sac fly, Olt with a double and a walk. Olt was replaced on the basepaths by Tzu-Wei Lin who scored a run. Joseph Monge managed two hits in six at-bats. Nick Longhi singled twice in seven trips. Rafael Devers went 1-for-5, walking once and adding a sacrifice fly. Cole Sturgeon and Heiker Meneses were both hitless; each dropped a bunt and Meneses drew a walk.

Salem Red Sox (27-15)

Salem blasts Pelicans pen, defeat Myrtle Beach 9-2

Matt Kent tossed the first seven frames, relinquishing two runs on three hits – including an Eloy Jimenez blast – and a walk; striking out five and throwing two pitches to the backstop. Adam Lau gave up a hit and a walk in his two scoreless innings, whiffing a trio.

Trenton Kemp thumped four hits, including a double, in five at-bats; Kemp also stole a base and was picked off first and then caught stealing. Michael Chavis also reached four times with a double, a walk, and two solo home runs in five attempts. Mike Meyers had two singles and a stolen base in five forays. Josh Ockimey and Jhon Nunez each knocked a single in four official at-bats; Ockimey was also hit by a pitch. Bryan Hudson hit a single in five trips. Jordan Betts was granted two base on balls and had two hitless excursions. Nick Lovullo drew a walk and was hit by a pitch in four appearances. Steven Reveles also earned a free pass in his five forays.

Greenville Drive (27-14)

Darwinzon Hernandez pitched the first three innings, yielding two runs on four hits, two walks, and a hit by pitch; whiffing a pair. Matthew Gorst granted one run on three hits and four walks in his three frames, striking out one and uncorking a wild pitch. Algenis Martinez finished the game with three scoreless innings, yielding two hits and a walk; striking out one.

Isaias Lucena knocked in four runs with three hits – including a double – in four at-bats. Chris Madera managed three singles in five trips. Mitch Gunsolus singled twice, drew a walk, and stole a base in four attempts. Lorenzo Cedrola laced a pair of singles in four at-bats. Tyler Hill hit two singles and stole a base in five forays. Tucker Tubbs had a single, a hit by pitch, a stolen base, and a sacrifice fly in four forays. Santiago Espinal and Jagger Rusconi each roped a hit in five excursions, Rusconi with a double. Ryan Scott drew a walk and was hit by a pitch amid three hitless trips.
