Red Sox Minor League Gameday

A strong farm system is at the heart of every successful MLB franchise. The Boston Red Sox have graduated a talented crop of players from their system including a shortstop, right fielder, and a left-handed starter. In Brandon Magee‘s Minor League Gameday, he will update us on how the teams in the Red Sox farm system performed every day.

Pawtucket Red Sox (22-23)

A dramatic 8th inning home run by Chris Marrero give the PawSox a 2-1 victory

Eduardo Rodriguez threw 102 pitches over seven innings, allowing a single run – via a solo home run by Cam Perkins – on four hits; striking out seven. Anthony Varvaro pitched a scoreless eighth inning, giving up a hit and a walk; striking out a pair. Pat Light picked up his third save, giving up a hit and a walk; striking out one in a scoreless ninth.

Chris Marrero and Rusney Castillo each went one-for-four, Marrero with an eighth inning, two-run home run. Sam Travis had a single and a walk in four plate appearances. Justin Maxwell, Chris Dominguez, and Sandy Leon each had a single in three at-bats. Deven Marrero and Jose Vinicio each went hitless in three tries. Bryce Brentz went hitless in four at-bats.

Portland Sea Dogs (16-28)

Sea Dogs hold off the Senators, winning 5-4

Keith Couch pitched six innings and two batters, allowing four runs on six hits – including a home run to Shawn Pleffner on the last pitch he threw – and three walks; striking out five. Chandler Shepherd pitched two scoreless innings, giving up a single and striking out four. Mitch Atkins picked up his second save of the season, walking a batter and striking out one in the ninth.

Henry Ramos had a pair of singles and was hit by a pitch in five plate appearances. Sean Coyle had a single, a home run, a stolen base, and a walk in five trips to the plate. Andrew Benintendi went 1/3 with a walk, a sacrifice fly and a caught stealing. Tzu-Wei Lin went one-for-four. Aneury Tavarez and Rainel Rosario each had a sacrifice fly and three hitless at-bats. Nate Freiman went 0-for-2 with a trio of walks. Ryan Court had two walks and three hitless at-bats. Ali Solis went 0-for-4.

Salem Red Sox (31-14)

Salem scores a pair in the sixth, defeat the Nationals 3-1

Travis Lakins allowed a run on four hits – three doubles – over six innings of work; striking out six. Ben Taylor pitched the final three innings in scoreless fashion, giving up a single and striking out five.

Nick Longhi had a single and a pair of walks in four trips to the plate. Mauricio Dubon had a triple and a walk in four plate appearances. Rafael Devers went 1/3 with a sacrifice fly. Danny Mars and Bryan Hudson each went one-for-four; Mars with a double, Hudson with a stolen base. Yoan Moncada had a single and a walk in five appearances. Ben Moore went 0/3 with a HBP and a stolen base. Jordan Betts and Mike Meyers each went hitless in four at-bats.

Greenville Drive (21-23)

Despite four home runs, the Drive get crushed 17-7

Logan Boyd allowed seven runs (5 earned) on seven hits (five doubles) while striking out four. Jeffry Fernandez allowed six runs – three earned – on eight hits (one HR) over 3 1/3 innings, striking out one. Kuehl McEachern pitched the final 2 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on five hits, a walk and hit a batter; striking out three.

Joseph Monge had a pair of singles, a double, and a home run in five trips to the plate. Luis Alejandro Basabe, Mitch Gunsolus, Jayce Ray, and Roldani Baldwin each went two-for-five; Basabe with a pair of home runs, Baldwin with a double and a home run. Chad De La Guerra had a single and a walk in four plate appearances. Trenton Kemp had a single in four at-bats. Tate Matheny went one-for-five. J.T. Watkins went hitless in four at-bats.
