Pawtucket Red Sox (71-68)
Sean O’Sullivan tossed 5 ⅓ innings of one-run ball, giving up four hits and two walks, striking out eight. Roman Mendez allowed a hit and two walks over 1 ⅔ innings of relief. Austin Maddox allowed two one-out singles in the eighth inning before striking out Chris Bostick and inducing an inning-ending groundout. Heath Hembree locked down the save with a one-hit, two-strikeout, scoreless ninth inning.
Jose Vinicio smoked a double in three at-bats and scored a run out of the nine-hole. Chris Marrero hit a single and saw ball four twice in four plate appearances. Rusney Castillo, Ryan LaMarre, and Christian Vazquez each went 1-for-4, Castillo with an RBI double. Dan Butler, Chris Dominguez, and Mike Miller were all kept off the basepaths in three trips to the plate. Bryce Brentz had four shots and was futile in each one.
Portland Sea Dogs (54-82)
Kevin McAvoy went the distance with an eight-inning performance in which he gave up five runs – four earned – on eight hits and two walks. McAvoy also struck out two, threw a wild pitch, and hit Jon Berti with a pitch.
Nate Freiman launched a solo shot in four trips to the plate. Danny Bethea smacked a double in three at-bats. Tzu-Wei Lin, Mauricio Dubon, Aneury Tavarez, Cole Sturgeon, and Ryan Court each went 1-for-4, Court with a double. Cody Decker and Rainel Rosario were both fruitless at the plate, Decker in four at-bats and Rosario in three.
Salem Red Sox (42-25 / 85-51)
Daniel McGrath allowed two runs over 5 ⅓ innings, giving up four hits and two walks, striking out two, and hitting one batter. Bobby Poyner finished the game, earning the save and allowing one run and four hits, striking out three.
Luis Alexander Basabe blasted two doubles and a single in five at-bats from the leadoff spot. Bryan Hudson hit a double and two singles while drawing a walk in five trips to the plate. Jose Sermo slapped two singles and drew a walk in five forays. Nick Longhi and Jordan Betts each went 2-for-5 with a double; Betts also had a two-run shot. Jordan Procyshen and Jayce Ray both hit RBI singles in their five at-bats. Mike Meyers worked his way on base via balls and scored a run in five trips to the plate. Deiner Lopez was kept off the basepaths, whiffing three times in four at-bats.
Greenville Drive (33-34 / 70-66)
Roniel Raudes threw 52 pitches through 1⅔ innings, allowing one run on four hits and three walks, striking out three. Austin Glorius saved the rest of the bullpen with a 4⅓-inning scoreless performance, walking three and striking out four. Stephen Nogosek pitched the last two innings, allowing a hit while striking out one.
Derek Miller, Tate Matheny, and Tyler Spoon each went 1-for-3 with a walk, Spoon with a double, Miller with a stolen base. Mitch Gunsolus drew two walks in four plate appearances. Nick Lovullo also saw ball four once in his four trips to the plate. Jeremy Rivera, Josh Ockimey, Trenton Kemp, and Roldani Baldwin were each futile at the plate in their four trips to the plate.
Lowell Spinners (46-28)
Kevin Steen threw 5⅔ frames, granting two runs on four hits and three walks, striking out one, and unleashing a wild pitch. Matthew Gorst picked up the final 2 ⅓ innings, gifting the final two runs on three hits and a walk, whiffing three.
Matt McLean, Victor Acosta, and Carlos Tovar each torqued two singles in four at-bats. Isaias Lucena laced a single and drew a walk in four plate appearances. Yoan Aybar tripled once in four trips. Andy Perez procured a walk in his four appearances. Chris Madera, Jerry Downs, and Tucker Tubbs each took an 0-for-4 collar.
GCL Red Sox (33-28)
Jhonathan Diaz twirled five scoreless innings on two hits and two walks, striking out six. Hildemaro Requena tossed the final four innings, allowing three eighth inning runs on four hits while whiffing three and throwing one past the catcher.
Jagger Rusconi roped three singles and stole a base in four at-bats. Santiago Espinal sliced a pair of singles and drew a walk in four trips to the dish. Steven Reveles singled twice and stole a base in five at-bats. Rafael Oliveras and Lorenzo Cedrola each laced a single in five excursions, Oliveras with a walk, Cedrola with a hit by pitch and a stolen base. Juan Barriento and Juan Carlos Abreu each drew a walk in their four plate appearances; Abreu was picked off. Samuel Miranda and Stanley Espinal each failed in four plate appearances.
DSL Red Sox 1 (1-0)
Edilson Batista pitched the first 4⅓ innings, yielding two earned runs on six hits and a walk, striking out one, and uncorking a wild pitch. Ramses Rosario went the next 5⅔ innings, allowing a run on four hits and two walks, striking out three, and sailing a pitch to the backstop. Manuel Ramirez faced three batters, hitting one, walking one, and getting one to pop out. Carlos Cortes got out of the 11th inning jam thanks to a Ramfis Berroa strike to get Edgar Pineda at the plate. Cortes would go the rest of the way – a total of 3⅔ innings – giving up three hits and two walks while whiffing a pair.
Marino Campana punched a single and a triple in six at-bats. Ivan Houellemont had the big infield single in the 14th, his only hit in three trips. He replaced Eddy Reynoso as a pinch runner in the eighth and scored the game tying run; Reynoso clubbed a double and picked up a walk in his four plate appearances. Ricardo Cubillan procured a single, a stolen base, and three walks in six trips to the plate. Luis Hernandez singled and earned two free passes in seven excursions. Kervin Suarez and Jose Mejias each sliced a single in six official at-bats, Suarez adding a walk. Carlos Pulido popped a single in seven trips. Ramfis Berroa and Willis Figueroa each failed to reach in their six plate appearances.
Each team had a rough defensive game, with five errors a piece. The Red Sox were also helped by two Rangers balks.
